The Best Road Trip Spots from Pittsburgh

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, road trips are becoming an increasingly popular way to travel. Road trips offer a safer travel option and can even inspire us to see locations we would not have previously thought of visiting. The best road trip spots from Pittsburgh offer local weekend or longer getaways.

    Conneaut Lake

Located just under an hour and a half from Pittsburgh, Conneaut Lake is a great location for a weekend getaway. Spend your day on the beach, boating on the lake, or at the Conneaut Cellar Winery for a quick and relaxing trip.

    Cherry Springs State Park

Cherry Springs State Park is a great camping location for a more rugged vacation destination. Cherry Springs is a three-and-a-half-hour trip northeast of Pittsburgh that offers stunning views of the stars at night and beautiful hiking trails in the daytime.

    Pine Creek Gorge

Pine Creek Gorge is the furthest destination from Pittsburg, but by no means is it worth skipping. Prepare for the long car ride four hours northeast to arrive at truly astonishing views of the Pine Creek Gorge. The Gorge—commonly referred to as the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania—is a 47-mile gorge that can be viewed from scenic overlooks or up close on hiking trials.

    Penn’s Cave

Just under three hours away from Pittsburgh, Penn’s cave is America’s only all-water cavern. There are plenty of unique activities to do at Penn’s Cave such as touring the cavern by boat, gemstone panning, farm and wildlife tours, or off-roading adventures.

    Presque Isle State Park

Presque Isle State Park is located two hours north of Pittsburgh in Erie, Pennsylvania. Visit Presque Isle for a day trip to the beach on the Great Lakes. If the beach isn’t for you, book a fishing charter, rent a bike along the lakefront, or visit the Presque Isle Lighthouse.
