Over 20 million Americans struggle with some form of addiction, and roughly 2 million will ever receive treatment. If you have overcome an addiction, you should congratulate yourself, because that’s quite an achievement.

The biggest problem with addiction is that it doesn’t go away, which means that you have to avoid anything that might make you want to use. The big question is what does that leave you with.

What do you do for fun when you’re newly sober? It turns out there are a lot of potential activities that might help keep your mind off of it. We’ll talk more about some of them in the paragraphs below.

1. Have a Nice Dinner

Whether you go to a restaurant or cook something at home, a simple meal and conversation can be an amazing experience. In this age of the internet and cell phones, some of the most meaningful conversations you have will be at the dinner table.

Not only that, but delicious food is an experience in its own right. Have you ever finished a meal and had the sensation of being full but also glad you ate it? It’s a satisfying feeling and one that can make for a great night.

2. Visit an Escape Room

What do you do for fun? If you’re the type who enjoys a challenge, an escape room might be the answer. In an escape room, groups of players solve puzzles in an attempt to unravel a mystery and escape an area they’re trapped in.

Don’t worry, because the experience only lasts an hour, and you’ll be let out even if you don’t succeed. You shouldn’t go in alone, though.

Escape rooms were built with groups in mind, so feel free to take along some friends, co-workers, or family. You can even take some of the people in your support group if you’ve grown close to them.

3. Exercise

Exercise is an excellent way to push yourself and learn more self-discipline, to say nothing of the numerous health benefits. Not only that, but exercise can cause a sense of euphoria, commonly known as a ‘runner’s high’. It’s a great way to get a rush without having to do anything dangerous.

Exercise may even open the door to new hobbies. Your newfound strength and determination will allow you to things you never dreamed of before.

Have you ever tried rock climbing? Perhaps gymnastics is more suited to you. You may even want to try ice skating.

What do You do for Fun When Getting Over an Addiction?

Addiction recovery can be a difficult process. One of the biggest challenges is finding new ways to spend your time.

What do you do for fun when you’re recovering from an addiction? We’ve mentioned a few activities in the paragraphs above, but that’s only the beginning.

There are many ways to spend your time that won’t remind you of past struggles. We encourage you to look for more on your own if you’re interested.
