It’s always a good idea to give back to the community, but with all of the coronavirus news going on, it’s even more important to stay connected. Helping others is one of the best ways to get out of our own heads and do something, even when we’re stuck inside. There are tons of easy ways for families to give back to the community, and we have a few great ones listed below. Check them out! Our lives are different with the current pandemic, but these are options you can stick to no matter what.

Schedule Clothing Donations for Those in Need

Donations are one of the best ways to support those in need both within the community and afar. Luckily, most of the time, you don’t have to leave the house to donate. For example, you and your family are bound to do some cleaning and decluttering while you’re stuck inside. Take advantage of that, and then schedule donation pick-ups with charities like Purple Heart Pick Up. Make sure to clean the items before you donate them, and then just leave the boxes outside for the driver to come and pick up the donation.

It’s also a great time to send some monetary donations to different organizations in the country and around the world. Sit down as a family to do your research on where you’d like to give. There are tons of resources available!

Offer Help to Families

If you can, offer help to families in the area. With kids home from school, you may realize that a lot of children don’t have lunches and breakfasts. If you can, offer your services to these families and the community in general—whether that involves purchasing some easy lunches and breakfasts or preparing and delivering food to neighbors. There are going to be plenty of people who need your family’s help, even if it’s just your child sending a smiley face card to a child down the road.

Write Cards to Hospitals and Retirement Homes

This is a great one for kids! Write cards, color pictures, and make drawings for people in hospitals or retirement homes—for nurses, doctors, patients, and even first responders. There are tons of people who are still out working and need a little pick-me-up. Tell the children that spreading their little lights can make a huge difference in the attitude of someone’s day. Not to mention, it’s a lovely way to keep the kids busy throughout the day!

Sometimes people just need a bit of light and uplift, and your family can be the source of this. See how you can give back to the community and stick to it, pandemic or not!
